History

Specialised Systems Electro Medical (SSEM) was formed in 1987, with a focus on the electrophysiology and respiratory markets. By 2000, after SSEM had expanded its product base to include ultrasound imaging and medical consumable products, the company’s position as a leader in Sub-Saharan Africa was firmly established. In the same year, SSEM contracted Mthembu Medical (Pty) Limited to manage its warehouse, logistical and technical support requirements nationally.

In May 2006 the two companies merged and now trade as SSEM Mthembu Medical (Pty) Ltd. We have consolidated our infrastructures with the aim of improving efficiency.

SSEM Mthembu Medical is now fully compliant with industry standards at all levels including the requirements of the Health Care Charter and Broad Based Black Empowerment regulations. 28% of the company is held by a black empowerment entity.

As a South African company with a progressive vision for the future, SSEM Mthembu Medical is committed to promoting equity employment, skills development and financial empowerment amongst all its stakeholders.

Our client base spans the entire Southern African region. This is accomplished by strategic alliances in the African continent with direct representation in South Africa. Our market comprises two segments: hospitals, (which includes all state, academic and private clinics and hospitals) and medical practitioners.

The fundamental principles of support are the same for both:

Local sales representation in each area depending on market demands

A Clinical Applications Expert for each product line, trained to provide detailed information regarding each product, and

Installation and commissioning done by factory-trained personnel.
